As the only daughter to royal guards for the Doman King Kaien Rijin, Mei was taught the arts of battle and defending her nation at a young age. By the age of four, she showed keen interest in martial arts, and her parents began helping their daughter reach her potential. Day in and day out, she spent her time on the training grounds with her parents or with fellow Doman soldiers, practicing multiple arts at once until she found a unique taste in boxing. Many, including her parents, were masters in stealth and carrying out their orders from in the shadows, using daggers and concealed weapons to their advantage. For Mei, her body became the weapon she honed with deathly precision.As the Garlean Empire began their invasion on a peaceful Doma, Mei watched as the King she swore to protect surrender to the opposing nation. Mortified, Mei was left to watch as her homeland was twisted for the Empire's needs, destroying the will of her people in a single swoop. Even within the castle, she and her parents were treated with intrigue, being three Vieras known for their longevity and youth, by Imperial scientists. Yet they were able to avoid further prodding by the former King, now acting-Viceroy.And so began Mei's work with the Liberation front, recruiting and bringing her fellow people against a common threat. At the same time, she was given a duty to train the young prince Hien and many other Doman soldiers in secret, a means to prepare them for the upcoming revolution. Her heart filled with the flames of freedom and discipline, Mei trained her men with vigor and newfound hope for the future of Doma.A couple years before the revolt, Mei had heard disturbing news of Imperial scientists coming to take "specimens" back to their homeland and that her parents were on that list. Worse even when she heard that her parents planned to surrender, a "necessary sacrifice" to prevent more suffering. Mei refused to stand idly by and, with the help of two of her close friends, set out to ambush the scientists and their Imperial charge on one fateful night.Drenched in blood, Mei and her comrades made the journey back to the palace to claim their victory to their King, only for Imperial weaponry to be aimed to their heads before they could reach the palace gates. Execution was their sentence, according to the Imperial general. Mei specifically would be taken to the public square to tortured in front of her people, including her parents and her King, for cutting down an Imperial scientist.Escaping her capture was no small feat, nor would it have been possible had her friends not stepped in to distract the Imperial squadron. Their final words of perseverance, of a better Doma, echoed in her mind as she fled.When she reached the Ruby Sea, she spoke with people she'd trained to secure her a hiding spot from the Imperials looking for her capture. Some of them were reluctant to help her; she had killed an Imperial scientist and, had she complied, then perhaps there wouldn't be this search. "Don't you see?" Mei would ask. "The fight against those Imperial bastards is possible. We can win this, so long as we stand together. We can stand tall. The resistance needs to show strength." That same night, she was given a place to rest with a Hyur couple near the Gensui Chain, where she dreamed of a fight hard won.Mei awoke in Old Sharlayan, a land far from Doma and isolated from the world, and under the care of an Elezen gleaner and a Miqo'te scholar. In the beginning, she planned to fight her keepers, the people who kept her prisoner. Yet a letter from her parents dowsed the flames that threatened to burst.To our dearest daughter, our separation is only temporary. Come back home when we are free, when our people have tasted liberation. Your voice is stronger outside of Doma, where your influence can reach those who may not know our plight. Strengthen your resolve, and come back stronger.Mei would spend the next year studying in Old Sharlayan, taking advantage of the Noumenon and the Stadium to hone her craft and learn what she could. She would take her knowledge before leaving the scholarly nation for Ul'dah, where she would drown in her vices and sink her teeth into the treasures of her pleasure.

Mei Kobayashi is known to come off as cold, sarcastic, and demeaning to some, while other times she's flirtatious and charming. She strives for excellence and perfection in her craft, even at her own expense, while constantly on the lookout for a new challenger.On the battlefield, she is ruthless and blood-thirsty, seeking only to punish and destroy her foes. Trained in multiple martial arts from Doma, she shows no fear at the idea of death or facing against someone potentially stronger than her.When not fighting an endless battle, she can be seen in clubs and bars, drinking and dancing and exploring her sexual desires. She chases after fleeting pleasures, never stopping to settle. Mei is interested in men, women, and nonbinary and is currently single. ERPs are welcomed; just send Tell if interested. HOWEVER! Will only RP if 18+ years and NO LALA ERP!Despite her career and attitude, she is very protective towards the courtesans she hires and the bartenders who find her as a regular.
Mei is a survivalist - she can cook (semi-decently), maintain her weaponry collection, and knows what to do when she's injured. She can do basic, emergency first-aid.A secret enjoyer of tomes and reading, she can spend hours at the library or in the privacy of her office just reading chapters on a variety of topics.Mei's first time visiting Doma is as WoL/when the Scions look to free Doma. However, in roleplay, Mei is not the WoL and has no Echo. If your character is WoL, she will interact.Mei heavily dislikes people, especially fighters or soldiers, she views as cowards, and will treat them with disdain. Overtime, however, she'd grown softer towards those who are helpless in their life trials, and will sometimes show a rare display of kindness.
Mei is friends with Hien as former his mentor. She finds him idealistic at times, but respects him as the son of the late King.Gosetsu is like another father-figure in her life, and used to value his teachings. Over time, however, she felt that she didn't deserve his kindness as the woman she is now.As the IMMORTALS leader and ringleader, she often deals with pesky and nosy leaders of the Brass Blades. Fortunately, with gil deep in her pockets and connections stretching into the Syndicate, her mercenary network continues business.
